HID or High Intensity Discharge uses an electrical charge to ignite Xenon gas contained in a sealed bulb. HID bulbs do not have filaments. The HID bulb is filled with a mixture of gassed including Xenon. When the HID bulb is ignited, an arc is created between the two electrodes. HID Extreme's HID kits are not simply a replacement bulb. The illumination color of light generated by HID is similar to sunlight and does not cause any stress or harm to the eyes. Many people believe that the higher the color temperature the brighter the lamp. This is totally wrong. The color temperature is purely a scale to measure the color of the light output. It is a reference purely for color and could equally be called White , Green or Blue.The reality is the higher up the scale the lamps are the less bright they become. 4100K lamps are approx 20% brighter (measured in Lumens not degrees K) than the 6000K.

High/Low kits use (2) bulbs and (2) ballast and have a relay that controls the moving bulb. Giving you the effect of having a high and a low beam, by changing the beam pattern from a wider to a more focused beam, however the brightness does not change.

The Kelvin is often used in the measure of the color temperature of light sources. Color temperature is based upon the principle that a black body radiator emits light whose color depends on the temperature of the radiator. Black bodies with temperatures below about 4000 K appear reddish whereas those above about 7500 K appear bluish. Color temperature is important in the fields of image projection and photography where a color temperature of approximately 5500 K is required to match “daylight” film emulsions. In astronomy , the stellar classification of stars and their place on the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram are based, in part, upon their surface temperature. The Sun for instance, has an effective photosphere temperature of 5778 K. The two most popular kits that we sell is the 4300K and the 6000K, the 4.3K will give you almost a pure white and the 6K has a slightly blue hue. It is a popular misbelief that the higher the temperature the brighter the bulb but as you can see on the chart to the right you do sacrifice some lumens when you get that deep rich blue or bluish purple color.
