WHERE BUSINESS PROSPERS AND LIFE IS GOOD!
CITY INFORMATION - Durant is the principle city of the Durant Micropolitan Statistical Area, which had a population of 39,563 in 2007. Durant ranks as the second largest city within the Choctaw Nation. Founded by Dixon Durant, this city is the county seat of Bryan County and home to Southeastern Oklahoma State University and the headquarters of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. Our fine city is also known as the Magnolia Capital of Oklahoma.

GEOGRAPHY - Located in Southern Oklahoma, Durant is in a region known as Texoma or Texomaland due to it's close proximity to Lake Texoma. It is also located approximately 14 miles north of the Texas border at the Red River.
CLIMATE - The average high for the year is 75 degrees Fahrenheit and the average low is 51 degrees. Snowfall in inches is approximately 2.7 inches annually.
ECONOMY - Durant was ranked as the fastest growing rural city in Oklahoma in 2004, having the fastest growth rate outside of the Oklahoma City and and Tulsa metro areas.
Today, our city is ranked as one of the fastest growing cities in the country. Durant's daytime population sees an increase of approximately 20,000. Durant is a progressive community with a thriving, diversified local economy, and currently leads the state in economic development.
One of the city's strongest industries is tourism; attractions include Lake Texoma, Lake Durant, the Choctaw Casino Resort, and Fort Washita.
Another important part of Durant is the Historical Central Business District. In the past few years, Downtown Durant has seen growth, renewal projects such as streetscaping and new businesses arriving.

CHOCTAW NATION - The Choctaw Nationa of Oklahoma has a huge impact on Durant's economy, especially the Choctaw Casino Resort located along U.S. 69/75. The largest employer in Durant is the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, including the Choctaw Nation Headquarters and the Choctaw Casino Resort.
HISTORY LESSON: The Choctaw Nation Headquarters are housed in the old Presbyterian College located on 16th and Locust. The college was built in 1910 for $80,000 on a 10-acre tract given by the Durant Area Chamber of Commerce. When the college closed operations in 1965, the Durant Area Chamber of Commerce purchased the college which is now used by the Choctaw Nation to house their headquarters.

ARTS AND CULTURE -Durant is the home of the annual Magnolia Festival and the Three Valley Museum. The festival takes place the weekend following Memorial Day. It features plenty of vendors, food, a carnival, live music, shopping, talent shows and pageants.

Durant is also home to the "World's Largest Peanut" monument located on the front lawn of Durant's City Hall; this monument commemorates peanut growers in Bryan County. This monument includes a time capsule containing historic and legal documents and is scheduled to be opened in 2023.

SPORTS - Durant is home to the Southeastern Oklahoma State University Savage Storm athletics which includes football, men and women's basketball, golf, volleyball, men's baseball, women's softball, tennis, rodeo, cheer, dance and cross country as well as Durant Independent School District Lion's who participate in baseball, basketball, cheer, cross country, football, golf, powerlifting, soccer, softball, tennis, track and wrestling.
PARKS AND RECREATION - The City of Durant maintains and operates 11 parks totaling more than 251 acres which include:

LAKE TEXOMA - Less than ten miles from Durant, you can find the vast waters of Lake Texoma which has between 8 and 10 million tourist annually.
