PARISH MISSION SATEMENT
We, the Catholic Community of St. Eugene, rich in diversity, yet one in faith, are led by the Holy Spirit to worship the Lord, educate and form members in the faith and reach out to all in need while proclaiming the love of Christ.
Dear Friends in Christ,
Hello, I am Fr. Joseph Jacobi, pastor of St. Eugene Parish since June 2002. This year our parish celebrates its Golden Anniversary Year, and it is a particularly special time as we emabark on a capital campaign, “A Legacy of Faith: Raising Up a Holy Place,” to construct a new church building. In 1958 Fr. Jim Ross and around 50-75 families founded St. Eugene’s. (St. Eugene was Pope from 654-657 and was the patron saint of Bishop Eugene McGuinness, who died not long before our parish was founded.) From those humble beginnings our parish has grown to over 1200 families, welcoming people of faith from every corner of the world who call our parish their church home. The continents of Africa, Asia, Europe, South America, and North America are all represented here, and parishioners have come from such diverse countries as Canada and Mexico, Nigeria and Vietnam, Cuba and Chile, Venezuela and Guatemala, Columbia and Peru. Every year we celebrate the richness of the many diverse gifts of our parish at the “Festival of the Americas: International.”
There are five different Masses on the weekend: the laid-back Sunday Vigil Mass at 5 p.m. Saturday; the quiet, reflective 8 a.m. Sunday Mass; the traditional English Mass at 10 a.m. Sunday with choir and instruments; the lively 12 noon Spanish Mass; and the 5 p.m. Sunday evening Mass with contemporary music targeting young people.
I invite you to join us in celebrating the word of God! In the peace of Christ,
Rev. Joseph A. Jacobi
